EDI 753: The Increasing Presence of The Routing Request From Retailers
To do business with an increasing number of retailers – including behemoths like Amazon, Cabela’s, JC Penney, Kohl’s and many others – suppliers must now use a routing request called a 753, an EDI transaction that lets retailers know electronically that a shipment is ready to be picked up. The information gleaned from the 753 allows retailers to figure out what orders need to be picked up, the size of the load, available pickup window (and from where), then decide the most efficient route that will ensure a robust truckload. `
Empower Customer-Facing Staff with Real-Time Order Visibility
Digital shoppers won’t settle for ambiguous answers, incomplete information or untimely fulfillment status updates. Service reps won’t feel much satisfaction from their work either if this is the best they can do based on the data available to them. The secret to success is being able to track an order…if you can’t track it, it will lead to more emails, phone calls, unnecessary communication and a dissatisfied customer or poor customer experience.
Optimizing The Retail Special Order System
When we normally talk about retail networks and order fulfillment, we usually think of consumer-based retail stores like Target and Best Buy. But there’s a whole other world within retail: the world of distributors.
Specifically, I’m talking about companies like Fastenal and Grainger, as well as NAPA and Auto Zone. If you’re not in the trades, you’re probably not familiar with them. These are the “stores” (they’re actually called branches) the contractors and auto mechanics go to for tools and parts. Rather than going to the hardware store, a contractor can call a distributor to order the specific new hammer drill or sump pump needed for their worksite or job.
